"All Budo culminates in Ninpo." - Toshitsugu TakamatsuHatsumi Ryu Budo (Bujinkan Budo) has its origins in ancient Japanese battle arts.In the Sengoku Period, warriors used their experience from battles in armor to develop effective specialized combat systems. A core system combining jujutsu throws and locks, with strikes from koppojutsu, helped to create a system able to counter armed and unarmed attacks.Over time, new grandmasters (soke) inheriting the arts refined them, further systemized them, and practiced them in a way that other generals and clans couldn't steal the techniques. This was common among both samurai and ninja of the era.Bujinkan Budo Taijutsu is a system consisting of the nine Japanese martial arts inherited by soke Dr. Masaaki Hatsumi. They were passed to him by Toshitsugu Takamatsu (1889-1972). Hatsumi-sensei teaches techniques and principles from all nine martial arts and has taught these skills to students all over the world. Since then, Hatsumi-sensei has retired from teaching and has named new soke for the nine arts:Togakure-ryū: Tsutsui Takumi
Gyokushin-ryū: Kan Jun'ichi
Kumogakure-ryū: Furuta Kōji
Kotō-ryū: Noguchi Yukio
Gyokko-ryū: Ishizuka Tetsuji
Kukishin-ryū: Iwata Yoshio
Shinden Fudō-ryū: Nagato Toshirō
Takagi Yōshin-ryū: Sakasai Norio
Gikan-ryū: Sakasai Norio
Bujinkan training today is about applying ancient principles to our modern lives. The martial aspect emphasizes surviving to get home safely. Though there is randori, there is no combat sport element to the training. Beyond self-defense, many students train in Bujinkan Budo to improve their daily lives by learning confidence, becoming healthier, learning to think creatively, and having greater inner connection to themselves."The first priority to the ninja is to win without fighting." -- Dr. Masaaki HatsumiI currently train at Seki Ryu Dojo under Dr. Dante Dionne and also regularly train with Robert Renner of Zeropoint Budo.
